About Translation, Translators and Public Service Translation

Our Role
NRPST is governed by NRPSI Limited and regulates the public service translating profession in the UK.  We are an independent, voluntary public interest body and our core role is to ensure that good standards within the translating profession are consistently maintained for the benefit of the public and translators.

Our Responsibilities
Our core duties are:

  • Keeping the UK Register of Public Service Translators
  • Recognising the qualifications needed to become a professional public service translator
  • Ensuring that registered translators meet our standards for professional conduct and practice in the field of public service translating
  • Investigating complaints about an translator’s conduct or competence
  • Promote the role of the Regulator and the importance of registration of translators to ensure understanding of added value to the profession and society

Funding
NRPSI is a not-for-profit organisation funded entirely by the registration fees that translators pay to register and remain on the register.
